Bugungu Wildlife Reserve is a small wildlife reserve that shelters and protects the savannah grassland and a seasonal wetland at the base of the Rift Valley Escarpment to the western side of Murchison Falls National Park. It was gazzeted in 1968, and situated between Bulisa and Masindi district. More so the reserve is part of the Murchison Falls Conservation Area. The wildlife reserve occupies 473 square kilometers thus it protects many animals like buffalos, leopards, hippopotamus, warthog, dik-dik, sitatunga, reed-buck, bush back, water- buck, baboons, the black and white colobus monkeys including 1200 oribis, 600 Uganda kobs.

There are over 240 species of birds recorded in the area comprising of the Shoebill stork, Abyssinian ground horn bill, Black-headed Batis, Dark chanting Goshawk,  the White-browed Sparrow Weaver, Black-bellied Bustards, the Black-billed barbets, the Eastern grey Plantain-eater, the Speckle-breasted woodpecker,  the Yellow-throated greenbul, the Black-billed barbets, the Black-billed wood dove, the Double-toothed barbet, the saddle-billed stork, the Giant Kingfisher, the Swamp Flycatcher and the Black-headed Gonolek among others.
